“Tame Impala is a rock band with a hypno-groove that accentuates the continuity of a dreamy yet psychedelic melody”, this is how Tame Impala define themselves and it’s more than enough to make you want to know more about them and their music. The band has been active since 2007 but only in the last few years, thanks to performances in Coachella, Primavera Sound, and Gastonbury, have they been able to achieve popularity among alternative music-lovers worldwide.
Kevin Parker is the mastermind behind it all: singer, lyric-writer, music composer, and guitar player. At first I thought he was one of those musical UK geniuses, although he’s from Australia, but nevertheless, his affinity with the British world is quite astonishing. Parker seems to be the reincarnation of John Lennon, the resemblance with The Beatles is not only fruit of the similarity between the two voices, but also product of the psychedelic trait of their music: Tame Impala took the best from the Liverpudlian band and brought it to the XXI century.
In their last album, Lonerism, we find tracks like “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”, that brings you back in time and gives you the feeling of being in the 1970s. Other of their tracks have a more contemporary sound, The Black Keys kind-of feel to them, like their track, “Elephant”, for example, that has a long instrumental part where Tame Impala showcase their guitar, drum and keyboard talents.
Tame Impala, a somewhat hippy like band, uniquely and timelessly dressed with that dreamer look we all like so much, with millions of views on YouTube, will be coming to Italy this Summer!
